Our God is greater, our God is stronger...

The week of our Haiti trip is finally upon us!  We had our final team meeting on Sunday night. There were a lot of last minute packing/preparation items to cover, but most importantly, we wanted to focus on our attitudes and hearts. The week ahead of us is going to be a different experience from any other. I am honored that God has chosen each and every person in this group to participate on this trip, and I think He has something great in store for our team, as well as the people we will be interacting with in Haiti.

We have all planned and tried our very best to prepare for this trip, but at the end of the day, it is important to remember that God is in control and that our experience and time in Haiti is in His hands. Isn’t that great? I am a huge planner and have big hopes for our team on this trip, but I know God has an even bigger and better plan than the one that Jason or I could have imagined and/or planned for our team. That is such a powerful concept to reflect upon. When I think of this, the song “our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other…” comes to my mind. This brings music to my ears and such joy to my heart!

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” This is a quote by Neale Donald Walsch that Jason reminded us of Sunday. We are all going to be out of our comfort zone a little or maybe a lot on this trip, but that’s ok. God didn’t say that everything we do for Him would be easy, but He has promised us that He will always walk beside us. As we take a leap of faith and step out of our comfort zone, I know that God is going to shape and mold us.  Along the way, I think he is also going to use us to shape and mold the community of Bohoc. We are only on this trip for a short 7 days, but our hope and prayer is that the Haitians are able to see the great God we serve with our actions and time in their community long after we are gone.

At the end of our meeting, we took some time to be silly with a team photo session. We discovered that the self timer was not always reliable.  It took 30 seconds the first time, 10 seconds the second, and approximately 5 seconds the third time. Seriously? That was confusing! This little mix-up created laughter throughout the room and was a simple reminder that things don’t always happen the way you have planned. The unexpected is usually far greater than the expected!

Haiti…we cannot wait to see you on Saturday!!!

Blessings,
Hannah
