Welcome to the Hope for Haiti blog!

On May 18-25th, a group of college students, led by two fantastic leaders, will embark on a mission trip to share the gospel to the people of Bohoc, Haiti! We are so excited for this journey and the people we will hopefully bring closer to the Lord. To prepare for this trip, the team participated in a retreat weekend on April 6-7. Prior to this, we have met as a group for brief meetings, so this was the perfect opportunity to get to know each other...and that we did!
On Saturday morning we gathered at Buckhead Church and began the short ride to our beautiful house on Lake Lanier for the night! We were fortunate that the weather was cooperating for our time there, so we surely took advantage of the outdoors. One of the most important tasks for the weekend was to share each team members testimonies, which really bonded us together. It is so fascinating to see the very different ways in which each of us came to know God and how he has shaped our lives over the years. Even more interesting was how we all happened to sign up for this trip that led us to this weekend, and eventually to our time in Haiti. As each person shared his or her testimony, the group grew closer and closer.
One of the most memorable activities was our trip to the dock as the sun was setting. The scenery was perfect and the beautiful colors of the sky made for a perfect photo opportunity. The picture below shows our group (minus a few members who couldn't make it)! We then proceeded to take many pictures capturing the moment, and then what seemed like a hundred more pictures trying to get the perfect "jumping shot." I'm not even sure if we got a single usable one, but we all had a blast trying! After the sun set, we all returned inside and played more "get to know you" games and activities that will help us as a group while in Haiti.
Overall the trip was short, but a great experience! I think we all feel closer as a team and even more excited than before for our approaching trip. We all come from so many different backgrounds but the Lord is waiting to do something fantastic through us for the people of Haiti. This weekend was the perfect start to His plan and May 18th can't come soon enough!

Until next time...
